While this is Sleepy Hollow's first time hosting the Met Open, it is no stranger to MGA championships. The Met Open marks the seventh different MGA championship held at the club, and the 14th overall. Here's the complete list:
Met Amateur: 1983, 1965, and 1944
MGA Senior Amateur: 1932
Met Junior: 1960, 1933, 1927, 1925, and 1920
MGA Mixed Pinehurst: 1973
MGA/MetLife Men's Net Team: 1991, 1985
French-American Challenge Matches: 1993
All of these, in addition to the 2002 U.S. Women's Amateur and a Senior PGA Tour event from 1986 to 1993, give Sleepy Hollow a championship tradition that is among the very finest of Met Area clubs.
96th Met Open Championship

A few prominent withdrawls
It's a gorgeous day here at Sleepy Hollow Country Club for the 96th Met Open, but unfortunately some prominent names had to withdraw prior to today's first round:
--Two-time Met Open champion Rick Hartmann of Atlantic, who won in 1998 at The Creek and in 2004 at Hudson National, injured his hand.
--Bill Britton of Trump National-Colts Neck, the 1979 Met Open champion, injured his back. Hopefully he'll be better by next Monday, when the MGA Senior Open begins at Crestmont Country Club in West Orange, N.J.
--Matt Dobyns of Deepdale withdrew for a happy reason...his wife gave birth on Monday to a baby girl, Kaitlyn Jennifer. We at the MGA wish the Dobyns family all the best!
Other players who had to withdraw prior to the championship were Carl Alexander of Purchase, Marc Coleman of Nassau Players Club, and Pat Collins of Garden City Country Club.
